Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream - Currently Testing & First Impressions

For the past week I have been trying a very exciting new addition to the Dear Klairs range of beauty products. Dear Klairs is a Korean beauty brand established in 2010 in Seoul, South Korea, and what I love most about them is that they do not test on animals and their their products are alcohol-free, paraben-free, and artificial-color-free!

The majority of their products are catered towards sensitive skins, and their latest addition, the Midnight blue Calming Cream is no exception. If you have 'patchy' skin, dry and undernourished only in certain parts of your face, then this cream is just for you!

I have tried out a number of their products (courtesy of WishTrend) and have been most impressed with them. Dear Klairs has actually become one of my favourite Korean beauty brands, and I have tried LOTS of Korean. Here are my own (always honest) reviews for the products I have tried out so far.

I am currently testing out the soon to be released, Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a very exciting addition to the Klairs line of products, and not just because of it's gorgeous blue colour. I must admit I was rather surprised at the colour when I first opened the tub. The blue colour is due to the addition of Guaiazulene. Guaiazulene occurs naturally, and is made up from a mixture of essential oils, mainly chamomile and palo santo oils. It is also found as a pigment in soft corals. So much science in this little tub!

Guaiazulene has the following beauty properties:

  • effective in calming the inflammation of damaged skin tissue
  • regeneration of skin cells

The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream contains 0.03% concentration of Guaiazulene. This doesn't seem like an awful lot, but is just the right amount to be beneficial to skin without the risk of causing a reaction.

Another of the active ingredients in this cream is extract of Centella Asiatica. Centella Asiatica aids in the regeneration of damaged skin and is helpful in preventing scarring. Another benefit of Centella is that is helps to control your skin's sebum (oil) production. It also helps to reduce redness, irritation and promotes healing.

The Midnight Blue Calming Cream also contains peptides and ceramides which promote water retention, repairs the skin's natural barrier and helps with cell regeneration effectively.

Here is a full list of the ingredients:

Water, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylic/Capric , Triglyceride, Centella Asiatica Extract, Sorbitan Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Ceramide 3, Polysorbate 60, Bees Wax, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl, Acrylate Crosspolymer, Morus Alba Root Extract, Triethanolamine , Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Guaiazulene, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Lecithin, Acetyl Glutamine, SH-Oligopeptide-1, SH-Oligopeptide-2, SH-Polypeptide-1, SH-Polypeptide-9, SH-Polypeptide-11, Bacillus/Soybean/Folic Acid Ferment Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol

This cream is jam-packed with a whole lot of skin goodness!

The cream itself comes in a small jar which contains 30ml of product. As it's formulated to be used as a 'on-the-spot' treatment cream, the 30ml of product will last you a very long time.

The Midnight Blue Calming cream has been formulated to go hand in hand with the rest of the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Line. You can read more about the soothing line in my review of the Rich Moist Soothing Toner, Cream & Serum. The Midnight Blue Calming Cream helps to calm & strengthen the skin barrier in extremely sensitive skin & when used with the soothing line (click here to read more), it works rapidly to soothe and regulate irritated & stressed skin.

This little blurb from WishTrend sums up this new cream well:

"If the Rich Moist Soothing Line and its nonirritating, deeply calming and soothing effects did not meet up to your expectations and needs, try the KLAIRS’ Midnight Blue Calming Cream for that total care.
Although the KLIARS' Midnight Blue Calming Cream is used for targeting smaller areas,
it has been designed with excellent spreadability so a small amount could cover a large area.
Enjoy a high efficacy & satisfaction with only a small amount"

Also included with the jar is a cute little 'spoon' to use to dispense the product. This means no dirty fingers going into your jar and helps to keep your jar free from germs and bacteria.

I have normal to combination skin, which gets patchy during Winter months. I have been using the cream on my nose, which gets especially flaky during Winter, and I have noticed a definite increase in moisture retention! I am happy to report that I have yet to have a flaky nose since using the cream. My current skincare routine for the final weeks of winter has included the Innisfree Ginger Oil Cream and I have also added the Ginger Oil Serum to my routine. I mention these products because since I have been using them, I only need to apply this Midnight Blue Calming Cream to my nose area, instead of all over my face. It would be too heavy for my combination skin to use this cream all over my face, so I stick to using it as it's intended, as a 'on-the-spot' treatment cream for patchy skin, which is a job it excels at!

I also have to mention it's delightful fragrance. I know some of my readers aren't fond of anything with too much fragrance, and Innisfree's products can be very 'scentsational' but the herbal fragrance of this cream is lovely. It's got a lavender base and a hint of citrus making it a very refreshing addition to my skincare routine.

The cream takes a few minutes to sink in, but for me, this is due to the fact that my skin has been less dry over the last few weeks thanks to my new skincare routine. You can see that it leaves the skin matte once it has sunk in. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this cream is suited for oily skin though. If you have very oily skin and battle with dry patches then I think you'd really like this cream. Bear in mind that due to it's moisturising properties it may leave your skin shinier than usual. But I guess a little shine is far better than red, angry dry patches.

The Klairs Midnight Blue Camling Cream has just been launched! You can purchase it online through Wishtrend who also offer international shipping. A little bonus for my readers, by using this code 052313605 you'll get $5 off your first order after registering.
